Research Summary

We are a group of research fellows, physicians, professional scientists, and students with an interest in developing new technologies aimed at ligand discovery. The group uses small molecule microarrays and surface plasmon resonance to discover and characterize interactions involving a number of disease-relevant protein targets and small molecules coming from natural or synthetic sources. Our microarrays often contain known bioactive small molecules, FDA-approved drugs, natural products, and compounds prepared through diversity-oriented synthesis. We screen the microarrays with panels of proteins involved in infectious disease, psychiatric disease, and cancer. Additionally, the group has an interest in the discovery or design of small molecules that disrupt protein-protein interactions, particularly those involved in transcriptional regulation. Finally, the group pursues new methods to improve target identification for small molecules that have interesting phenotypes in forward chemical genetic assays .
